A new gastronomic story in Denmark’s most iconic cultural venue
The restaurant at the Opera on Holmen is now re-emerging under a new name: Amélie. The restaurant is now taking a significant step beyond its former identity as Almanak, presenting a refined gastronomic concept in more atmospheric surroundings—and, in doing so, a clearer narrative of what a restaurant in a modern cultural venue can offer.
Amélie at the Opera is an exceptional modern Danish brasserie—a place where classic French craftsmanship meets seasonal Danish produce, and where tradition and innovation go hand in hand. The restaurant has been created as an integrated part of the Opera’s overall experience, while maintaining a clear ambition to stand strong as an independent destination.
OPEN TO ALL—ALSO WITHOUT A PERFORMANCE TICKETWith its new name and concept, Amélie aims to strengthen the narrative.
Here, the doors are open to everyone. You do not need a ticket to enjoy a memorable experience, and with its own new entrance, Amélie will be a place where you are always welcome to dine.
With Amélie, LOCA and The Royal Danish Theatre aim to strengthen the story of the Opera as an open cultural venue and Amélie as a destination in its own right—because whether you are an opera guest, a local, a tourist, or simply curious about a gastronomic experience with views of both harbour and horizon, you are welcome. The ambition is for more people to experience the iconic building and the views over the harbour and Amalienborg, whether they are attending a performance or not.
“The Opera is one of the most beautiful and distinctive cultural venues in Denmark, and the building was, in its time, gifted to all Danes. That is why, from the very beginning, it has also been a shared ambition for The Royal Danish Theatre and us at LOCA to make the house more vibrant and accessible—not only for those with a ticket to the auditorium, but also for guests who come for the gastronomy, the view, or the atmosphere in itself,” says Merete Holst, Founder, CEO & Head of Gastronomy at LOCA.
TAKE THE LIFT DIRECTLY INTO THE RESTAURANTWith the new outdoor lift, the restaurant now has direct access from street level to both the restaurant and the rooftop terrace, making Amélie far more accessible for guests—also on days and at times when there are no performances in the building.
“The lift is a decisive step in the restaurant’s development. It enables us to run Amélie to its own rhythms, opening hours and experiences—and makes it far more natural to visit the restaurant spontaneously, whether you come for lunch, a glass of wine, or dinner with views over the harbour,” says Restaurant Manager Mikkel Borgstrøm.
